Scanning While Driving: Why is it Important?
Scanning and observing your surroundings is one of the most important things to do while driving. If you are not aware of your surroundings, accidents can occur. According to statistics, teens are 10 times more likely to not scan than middle-aged drivers.
Here’s more information about scanning:
Scanning is constantly being aware of everything around you and knowing when and where to react in case of a potential hazard. 15 seconds is equivalent to one city block. When you look about 15 seconds ahead, you can be on guard and protect yourself in case something pops up.
When scanning, look left, centre right before entering every intersection or crosswalk. Check for pedestrians, cars or bicyclists. Once you have noticed a certain problem, you can now take action and help to keep yourself safe on the roads.
When you take driving lessons, the importance of scanning, mirror checks, keeping the rights space at all times, looking ahead and spotting potential hazards is all taught. To keep your loved one safe on the roads, hire an accredited driving school to ensure he/she is taught all of these important skills in order to keep them safe while driving on the roads.
